Evian Natural Spring Water, 750 mL glass
Reader ratings
French spring water in glass with the best test data in this group: PFAS not detected in an NSF report and in 14 FDA samples. A US grocer sells the 750 mL glass bottle for about $3.18; online resellers ask twice that or more.
Best for Someone who can buy the glass bottle at a grocery store and wants the best-tested spring water of the group.

How we evaluated it
Why we chose it What put it on our list
- The maker’s 2025 water quality report includes an NSF Laboratories test report (final report 20 February 2025, sampled 30 January 2025, tested to FDA’s bottled water rule, 21 CFR 165.110). It lists 18 PFAS, including PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS and PFNA, as not detected at a reporting limit of 2 ng/L, under the EPA’s 4 ng/L limit for PFOA and PFOS.
- The same report shows arsenic not detected, nitrate at 0.88 mg/L as N against a 10 mg/L limit, uranium at 0.002 mg/L against 0.03, and lead not detected.
- FDA’s 2023 to 2024 survey tested 14 Evian samples bought at US retail and imported from France. None had any of the 18 PFAS FDA tested for above its 0.23 to 0.32 ng/L reporting limits.
- Consumer Reports tested Evian in 2020 and did not name it among the two non-carbonated waters above its 1 ppt PFAS line.
- The source is named, and the label gives minerals: calcium 80, magnesium 26 and bicarbonate 360 mg/L, pH 7.2.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy
- The glass pack has no maker price and a patchy market. H-E-B’s Victoria, Texas store showed $3.18 for one bottle on 22 October 2026, about $38 for 12 at that price. Online we saw only third-party resellers: about $6.67 a bottle on Amazon (6 for $40) and about $14 a bottle for a “British import” 3-pack on Walmart.com.
- The NSF samples came from filling lines named “Line 4” (still) and “Line R” (sparkling). The report does not say which package they were filled into, so we cannot tie them to the glass bottle, and the report’s cover letter mentions the quality of its plastic bottles. Cap and liner materials are not stated. TFA, a very short PFAS, is in neither NSF’s panel nor FDA’s.
- The NSF report was commissioned by the maker, and Consumer Reports did not publish a value for Evian, only a list of what exceeded 1 ppt.
- Glass is not plastic-free. A 2025 study by France’s food-safety agency (ANSES) found 4.5 plastic particles per liter in water bottled in glass, against 1.6 in plastic bottles and cartons, and says they probably came from the paint on metal caps. ANSES calls the water counts relatively low whatever the container and cannot say what they mean for health.
What to know Details worth knowing first
Evian is French natural spring water, bottled at the Cachat spring. It has the strongest test data of any brand in this group. The maker’s 2025 report includes an NSF test showing 18 PFAS and arsenic as not detected, and FDA’s 2023 to 2024 survey found no PFAS in any of 14 retail samples. See what PFAS are for why that matters.
Two cautions. The NSF samples came from named filling lines, and the report does not say whether those lines fill glass, and Evian does not state its cap and liner materials. A 2025 French study linked plastic particles in glass-bottled water to cap paint, so see reducing microplastic exposure too. On price, a grocery chain sold the glass bottle for $3.18, while online resellers asked about twice that or more.
For everyday drinking, a certified home filter is usually cheaper and lower-waste. Our water filter picks and the guide to tap versus bottled water cover when bottled is worth it.
Quality & testing How it measures up against our checklist
- Third-party tested
- Yes
- Tested by
- NSF Laboratories (commissioned by the maker); FDA laboratory survey (2023 to 2024)
| What we checked | What we found |
|---|---|
| A water-quality report Maker’s claim | The maker’s 2025 Annual Water Quality Report includes NSF’s full test report for still and sparkling water, covering arsenic, nitrate, uranium, 18 PFAS and over 175 substances in all, with reporting limits. |
| Low PFAS Verified | All 18 PFAS in NSF’s report were not detected at 2 ng/L. FDA’s survey found none of 18 PFAS in 14 Evian samples bought at US retail. TFA, a very short PFAS, is in neither panel. |
| Glass or aluminum, cap and liner stated Not verified | Glass in 330 mL and 750 mL on the maker’s US site. Cap and liner materials are not stated on the pages we opened. |
| A named source and treatment Maker’s claim | Cachat spring in Evian-les-Bains, bottled at the spring, with stainless steel piping from spring to plant. The report describes no treatment. |
| Minerals stated Maker’s claim | Label: calcium 80, magnesium 26, potassium 1, bicarbonate 360, silica 15, sulfate 14, chloride 10 mg/L, pH 7.2. NSF measured total dissolved solids at 340 mg/L. |
| Notices and recalls Verified | We found no California Prop 65 notice and no FDA or CPSC recall naming Evian when we searched on 22 Oct 2026. |
What the labels mean
- Verified We opened an independent record that confirms it: a certifier’s listing, a regulator’s list or a lab report. It is linked under Sources.
- Maker’s claim The maker says so on its own page or label. We read it but found no independent record.
- Not verified We looked and could not confirm it, or the maker does not say. Treat it as unknown.
