Terms of use

The plain-English rules for using this site. Reading it means you agree to them.

Last updated 21 October 2026

Information, not medical advice

Everything on this site summarises published research. It's general information about what studies have found, not advice about you. We're not your doctor, we don't know your history, and nothing here creates a clinician-patient relationship.

Don't start, stop or change a medication, supplement or treatment because of something you read here without talking to a qualified clinician who knows you. If you think you have a medical emergency, call your local emergency number.

We try hard to be right, and we can still be wrong

Every claim on the site is cited, and we say plainly when the evidence is thin or conflicting. Even so, science changes, studies disagree, and we make mistakes. The site is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any promise that it's accurate, complete, up to date, or fit for a particular purpose.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we're not liable for any loss or harm that comes from using the site or relying on anything in it. Where the law doesn't let us exclude a liability, we don't.

Your account

You sign in with a link we email you; there's no password. Keep your inbox secure, because anyone who can read it can sign in as you, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. We may close accounts that are used to abuse the site or other readers.

Things you send us

Challenges, topic requests and anything else you submit must be yours to share, and must not be abusive, defamatory or unlawful. By submitting, you let us publish, edit, shorten and keep it, and credit you by display name. We may decline or remove anything, and we don't have to say why.

Using our content

Content licence: we're finalising the licence for our articles and will state it here. Until then, you're welcome to quote short passages with a link back; please ask before republishing more.

Whatever the licence, don't present our words as an endorsement of a product, person or service, and don't use our name or logo without permission. The studies we cite belong to their authors and publishers, and our summaries are no substitute for reading them.

Fair use of the site

Don't do anything that harms the site or the people who use it: no attacks, no attempts to get around security or rate limits, no bulk scraping that strains the servers, and no use of our forms or email to spam anyone. Polite, moderate crawling that respects robots.txt is fine.

Links to other sites

We link to PubMed, journals and occasionally to retailers so you can check our sources and find the products we've vetted. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for them. We earn nothing from any link; see how we're funded.

Changes and questions

We may update these terms. The date at the top will change, and we'll mention anything meaningful in the weekly digest. Using the site after a change means you accept it. Questions go to hello@whatshealthyandwhy.com, or see the contact page.
