Good Clean Love Almost Naked Organic Personal Lubricant
Reader ratings
A water-based aloe lubricant cleared by FDA, with named ingredients, no glycerin or parabens, and a maker-stated pH near 4 and osmolality of 250 to 400. A 2012 lab study found the older formula near body osmolality.
Best for Anyone using latex or polyisoprene condoms, or no condom, who wants a water-based lubricant with published pH and osmolality numbers.

How we evaluated it
Why we chose it What put it on our list
- FDA’s database lists clearance K150094 (November 2015) for Almost Naked as a personal lubricant. The indication says it is compatible with natural rubber latex, polyisoprene and polyurethane condoms.
- A 2012 lab study of ten water-based gels (PLoS One) measured a Good Clean Love aloe gel, bought from an online retailer, at 269 mmol/kg and pH 4.8. It called Good Clean Love and PRÉ the two near-isotonic gels, and the aloe gel kept cells and tissue viable. Astroglide measured 6,113 and KY Jelly 2,510 in the same table.
- WHO’s 2012 advisory note says a lubricant’s osmolality should ideally not exceed 380 mOsm/kg, that vaginal fluid runs about 260 to 290, and that a vaginal lubricant’s pH should be about 4.5. Good Clean Love states 250 to 400 mOsm/kg and pH 4.0 to 4.4 for the current formula.
- Seven named ingredients: organic aloe leaf juice, xanthan gum, agar, a lactic acid blend, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate and natural flavor. The maker says no glycerin, parabens or petrochemicals.
- Maker price: $16.99 for 4 fl oz, about $4.25 an ounce.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy
- “Natural flavor” is not named, and the lactic acid is a “proprietary blend.” The 2012 study’s version listed lemon and vanilla extract. For a lubricant with no flavor, the same maker sells BioNude (FDA K180136), unscented and unflavored.
- The pH and osmolality numbers for today’s formula are the maker’s. We found no independent measurement of them, and the top of the stated osmolality range (400) sits above WHO’s ideal ceiling of 380.
- Mamavation reported in February 2024 that Almost Naked carries a California Proposition 65 warning for non-decolorized whole-leaf aloe extract, and advised against swallowing it. We did not see a warning on the maker’s or Target’s page, and the maker does not say whether its aloe is decolorized. The maker calls the product safe to ingest.
- Water-based, so it has to be preserved: potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate here. A silicone lubricant such as Überlube has no water and needs neither.
What to know Details worth knowing first
Almost Naked is Good Clean Love’s first product: a water-based gel that is mostly organic aloe juice, thickened with xanthan gum and agar and preserved with potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate. The maker says it has no glycerin or parabens. FDA clears it as a personal lubricant for use with latex, polyisoprene and polyurethane condoms.
We list it because of the numbers. WHO’s advisory note says a lubricant’s osmolality should ideally stay at or below 380 mOsm/kg, and that most commercial lubricants run from 2,000 to 6,000. A 2012 lab study of ten water-based gels measured an earlier version of this aloe gel at 269 and found it among the gentlest on cells and tissue. The maker now states 250 to 400.
In a 2024 consumer screen for a PFAS marker, it showed none. The gaps are plain: those current numbers are the maker’s, “natural flavor” is not named, and the independent osmolality test predates today’s formula. Mamavation also reported a California Proposition 65 warning for whole-leaf aloe on the product, which we could not confirm. See the checks. Quality & testing How it measures up against our checklist
| What we checked | What we found |
|---|---|
| FDA-cleared Verified | FDA lists K150094 (Good Clean Love, November 2015) for Almost Naked, product code NUC (personal lubricant). FDA’s listing database lists the Almost Naked products under that number. |
| Condom compatibility Verified | The FDA indication says compatible with natural rubber latex, polyisoprene and polyurethane condoms. The summary is only the clearance letter and indication, so the test method is not shown. |
| Ingredients listed Maker’s claim | Organic aloe leaf juice, xanthan gum, agar, “proprietary lactic acid blend,” potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, “natural flavor.” The blend and the flavor are not broken down. |
| No spermicide Maker’s claim | Target’s page says it is not a contraceptive and has no spermicide. The ingredient list shows none. |
| Body-friendly lubricant Maker’s claim | Water-based. The maker states pH 4.0 to 4.4 (its store feed says 4.1 to 4.5) and osmolality 250 to 400 mOsm/kg. WHO’s ideals are pH about 4.5 and osmolality at or under 380. |
| Independent lab test (2012, earlier formula) Verified | Dezzutti et al. measured a Good Clean Love aloe gel at 269 mmol/kg and pH 4.8, and found it kept epithelial cells and ectocervical and colorectal tissue viable, unlike hyperosmolar gels. That gel listed lemon and vanilla extract and benzoic acid, so it is not today’s formula. |
| California Proposition 65 Not verified | California’s Proposition 65 list includes “aloe vera, non-decolorized whole leaf extract” (listed for cancer on December 4, 2015; warnings required from December 2016). Mamavation reported a Prop 65 warning on Almost Naked in February 2024. We saw none on the maker’s or Target’s page, and the maker does not say whether its aloe leaf juice is decolorized. |
| PFAS screen Not verified | Good Clean Love makes no PFAS statement that we found. Mamavation’s 2024 consumer lab test found no organic fluorine (flag: above 10 ppm) in Almost Naked, one sample; raw lab data is members-only. |
| Recalls and company Verified | Good Clean Love is based in Eugene, Oregon. FDA’s recall database has no entries for the company. |
What the labels mean
- Verified We opened an independent record that confirms it: a certifier’s listing, a regulator’s list or a lab report. It is linked under Sources.
- Maker’s claim The maker says so on its own page or label. We read it but found no independent record.
- Not verified We looked and could not confirm it, or the maker does not say. Treat it as unknown.

Where to buy Other stores and the prices we saw
- Target approx. $15 for 4 fl oz. On 2026-10-22 the 4 fl oz bottle was $14.99 and the 1.5 fl oz bottle $9.99. Target’s listing gives the scent as “Vanilla”; the maker’s list says only “natural flavor.”
Prices as we saw them on October 22, 2026. They change often. These links carry no tracking code and earn us nothing.
Alternatives Other options to compare
- BioNude Ultra Sensitive (same maker) Unscented and unflavored, pH 3.9 to 4.3 and 250 to 400 mOsm/kg, per the maker. FDA K180136 says it is not compatible with polyurethane condoms. About $17 for 3 fl oz.
- Überlube Silicone Lubricant Silicone, so no pH or osmolality to check, and four ingredients at a premium price; not for silicone toys. An advocacy group’s lab screen reported organic fluorine, a PFAS marker, in it in 2024 and later dropped the entry without explanation, so we have not listed it.
- Aloe Cadabra Natural Aloe Lubricant Also aloe-based and FDA-cleared, and cheaper per ounce, but it publishes no pH or osmolality number.
