Reviews are personal experiences, not research, and they never change our quality ratings. Every review is read by our team before it appears.

Why we chose it What put it on our list 4 points
    • The USDA Organic Integrity Database lists Ancient Grains, LLC dba Grand Teton Ancient Grains (NOP ID 2170041852) as certified by the Idaho State Department of Agriculture since 2013, with Einkorn in its handling scope.
    • It is a whole grain by form: the page describes the berries as whole grains, unmilled, with the hull removed, so nothing is sifted out.
    • The price is the lowest we saw for organic einkorn: $11.21 for 2.5 lb ($4.48 a pound), $26.91 for 7.5 lb ($3.59), $50.23 for 15 lb ($3.35) and $143.95 for 48 lb ($3.00) on 2026-10-22.
    • The maker says it packs in paper bags “to eliminate contact with plastic”, and its FAQ gives a shelf life: up to 2 years in paper bags.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy 4 points
    • The glyphosate claim is the maker’s own. It says it tests the berries and certifies them glyphosate free, but names no lab and posts no results. Grand Teton is not on The Detox Project’s residue-free list.
    • The page does not say where this grain was grown, or give a harvest year or pack date. The FAQ says the farm also contracts growers across northwestern North America.
    • The hull has been removed, which the maker says drops germination to 40 to 50 percent, so these are for cooking or milling, not sprouting. You need a grain mill to make flour.
    • Einkorn is wheat. It contains gluten and is not safe with celiac disease. The FAQ only advises talking to a health professional first, and says many people with gluten sensitivity tolerate it.
What to know Details worth knowing first

Grand Teton Ancient Grains is a family farm and mill in Teton, Idaho. These are whole einkorn berries, sold in paper bags, and they are the lowest-priced organic einkorn we found: $4.48 a pound in the 2.5 lb bag, down to $3.00 at 48 lb. Cook them whole, like the farro in our farro article, or grind them in a home mill.

The USDA Organic Integrity Database confirms the organic certification. The glyphosate-free claim is the maker’s own: it says it tests the berries but shows no lab and no results (see what glyphosate is). The page also leaves out where this grain was grown and when it was packed, which is why the score is 3.

Einkorn is wheat. It contains gluten and is not safe with celiac disease (see celiac disease). The maker’s FAQ is softer, so do not rely on its wording. Buying the Amazon listing costs more per pound than buying direct.
