Mountain Rose Herbs Organic Lavender Essential Oil
Reader ratings
An organic lavender oil with the plainest copy of the group: no health claims and clear cautions. GC/MS data is available on request only, and we did not request it, so the batch test is unconfirmed.
Best for Buyers who want a certified-organic lavender with sensible cautions and are willing to ask the company for a GC/MS report.

How we evaluated it
Why we chose it What put it on our list
- USDA’s Organic Integrity Database lists Mountain Rose Herbs (NOP ID 8150001085) as certified since October 2002 by Oregon Tilth, with “Lavender Essential Oil” in its handling scope. The profile was updated October 16, 2026.
- The page names the plant (Lavandula angustifolia), the part (flowers), the method (steam distilled) and the origin (Bulgaria). It makes no disease or treatment claims.
- The precautions are specific: the oil can cause skin sensitization, never use it undiluted, do not take it internally unless working with a qualified practitioner, and keep it away from children. It tells you to patch test a diluted drop on the inner forearm or back for 48 hours.
- The 1/2 oz and 1 oz bottles are amber glass with drop reducers. The company says it has no investor influence.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy
- No lot report is published. The company’s essential oils page says customers may contact customer service for GC/MS analysis. We did not request one, so we cannot say what it shows or whether it is for your lot.
- The USDA listing covers the company as a handler and names the product. It does not show a certificate for a specific lot or bottle, and we did not see which farm the lavender comes from.
- The smallest bottle costs about $1.10 a mL, more than Plant Therapy or Aura Cacia. Larger bottles cost less per mL, but our lavender article notes that old, oxidized oil is more likely to cause allergic skin reactions, so buy only what you will use.
- The site files this oil under “Stress Support”, a benefit claim in the navigation, though not in the product text.
What to know Details worth knowing first
Mountain Rose Herbs sells this lavender under the plainest copy of the four oils we reviewed. The product text describes the plant and the aroma, warns about skin sensitization, says never to use it undiluted, and does not promise any health effect. That matches our checklist better than most essential oil pages. The organic claim also checks out at the company level in USDA’s database.
What is missing is a lot report. The company says GC/MS data is available from customer service, but it does not post one, and we did not ask for one. If a batch report matters to you, ask for it before you buy and compare the lot number on your bottle. Without it, this is a 3.
Read the safety guide before using any essential oil on skin or around children and pets.
Quality & testing How it measures up against our checklist
- Third-party tested
- No
- Tested by
- Mountain Rose Herbs’ own laboratory (GC/MS on request)
| What we checked | What we found |
|---|---|
| A batch test Not verified | Not published. The company says customers may contact customer service for GC/MS analysis, and that its quality control lab will not release material until it meets specifications. We did not request a report. |
| Named plants Maker’s claim | Lavandula angustifolia; flowers; steam distilled; Bulgaria. |
| Honest claims Maker’s claim | No health, disease or immune claims in the product text, and the standard FDA disclaimer. The breadcrumb files it under “Stress Support”. |
| Safety information Maker’s claim | Can cause skin sensitization; never use undiluted; do not take internally unless working with a qualified and expert practitioner; keep away from children; patch test instructions. No pregnancy or pet guidance. |
| Dark glass, dropper and lot number Maker’s claim | Amber glass with drop reducers for the 1/2 oz and 1 oz bottles; larger sizes have screw caps and no reducer. A lot number is not mentioned on the page. |
| Organic Verified | USDA Organic Integrity Database entry for Mountain Rose Herbs lists “Lavender Essential Oil” in its handling scope. It is a company-level listing, not a lot certificate. |
What the labels mean
- Verified We opened an independent record that confirms it: a certifier’s listing, a regulator’s list or a lab report. It is linked under Sources.
- Maker’s claim The maker says so on its own page or label. We read it but found no independent record.
- Not verified We looked and could not confirm it, or the maker does not say. Treat it as unknown.
