Reviews are personal experiences, not research, and they never change our quality ratings. Every review is read by our team before it appears.

Why we chose it What put it on our list 4 points
    • The full ingredient list is on the page: water, decyl glucoside, coco-glucoside, chamomile flower extract, sodium bicarbonate, sodium gluconate and sodium citrate. No fragrance, dye or preservative is listed.
    • MADE SAFE’s directory lists The Concentrate as certified, and EWG’s own directory lists “Branch Basics The Concentrate, Fragrance-Free” as EWG Verified (data updated October 5, 2026), with the same seven ingredients as the product page.
    • One bottle does several jobs. The page gives dilutions for all-purpose cleaner (1 part concentrate to 11 parts water), bathroom (1 to 5), foaming hand wash (1 to 4) and laundry (1 to 2).
    • The maker says the unmixed concentrate lasts at least two years.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy 4 points
    • It costs $55 up front, and the page does not say how many bottles of cleaner it makes.
    • You need bottles. The page says to pour it into “any of our refillable bottles”, and that the formula is biodegradable but the packaging is not.
    • The “free from” list (sulfates, chlorine, phosphates, phthalates, parabens, VOCs and endocrine disruptors) is the maker’s statement, not a test result.
    • It is a cleaner, not a disinfectant. Products that claim to kill germs need an EPA registration number.
What to know Details worth knowing first

Many of the risks we describe in common cleaning products come from fragrance, quaternary ammonium disinfectants and ingredients that are not listed at all. Branch Basics takes the opposite approach: a short, fully listed formula and one concentrate that you dilute for different jobs.

The reasons this one is on the list are the ingredient list and two independent listings. MADE SAFE’s directory lists The Concentrate as certified, and EWG’s directory lists it as EWG Verified. We found no EPA Safer Choice mark.

Disinfecting is a separate job. A product that claims to kill germs needs an EPA registration number, and this is a cleaner. For laundry, see laundry products for the ingredients to look out for.
