What we look for
We look for
- Full ingredient disclosure: on the label and the website, including fragrance components.
- An independent mark: EPA Safer Choice, EWG Verified, MADE SAFE or Green Seal for that specific product and its current formula.
- Fragrance-free, or every fragrance component listed.
- Concentrates and refills: less packaging per use, with clear dilution instructions.
- Honest germ claims: only products with an EPA registration number may claim to kill germs.
We avoid
- Quaternary ammonium (“quat”) disinfectants for everyday cleaning.
- “Fragrance” with no breakdown, and scented candles or air fresheners.
- “Green”, “natural” or “eco” with no ingredient list.
