Reviews are personal experiences, not research, and they never change our quality ratings. Every review is read by our team before it appears.

Why we chose it What put it on our list 4 points
    • The Free & Clear page lists 11 ingredients with CAS numbers and says “No added fragrances”. The scented Aestival version adds “fragrances” and names 16 fragrance materials.
    • EWG’s Guide to Healthy Cleaning lists the 2-in-1 Bio Enzyme Dishwasher Detergent + Booster with a hazard score of A and “Ingredient disclosure: good”, data last updated June 5, 2026. That is EWG’s rating of the label, not EWG Verified. The listing shows no fragrance ingredient, so it appears to describe the Free & Clear formula.
    • Price is clear: $20 for 48 loads (about 42 cents), $42 for 110 loads (about 38 cents), or $70 for 220 loads (about 32 cents).
    • Dirty Labs’ Free & Clear laundry detergent has Safer Choice and EWG Verified listings. This product is made by the same company but is not covered by them.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy 4 points
    • We found no product-specific independent mark. EPA’s Safer Choice table has 14 Dirty Labs rows, all laundry detergents. EWG’s Verified list has one Dirty Labs cleaner, the laundry detergent.
    • The page shows two logos, “USDA Certified Biobased Product 97%” and “Green Seal”. USDA’s BioPreferred catalog lists three Dirty Labs products and this is not one. Green Seal’s directory has no Dirty Labs entry, and its only dishwasher result is another company’s tablets.
    • It contains an oxygen bleach (sodium carbonate peroxide) and two enzymes. The page advises against using it on sterling or silver-plated items.
    • At 32 to 42 cents a load it is a premium-priced detergent, in the same range as Branch Basics’ tablets.
What to know Details worth knowing first

Dirty Labs’ Free & Clear dishwasher powder has a complete ingredient list and no fragrance. Our guide to common cleaning products says those are the first two things to look for. EWG’s Guide to Healthy Cleaning rates the label an A for ingredients.

What it does not have, on the records we could open, is a product-specific mark. The Safer Choice and EWG Verified listings that back Dirty Labs’ laundry detergent do not extend to this product, and the logos on its page did not turn up in USDA’s or Green Seal’s directories.

We are asking Dirty Labs for the certificate numbers behind those logos. Until it answers, treat the marks on this page as the maker’s claims.

    • Verified We opened an independent record that confirms it: a certifier’s listing, a regulator’s list or a lab report. It is linked under Sources.
    • Maker’s claim The maker says so on its own page or label. We read it but found no independent record.
    • Not verified We looked and could not confirm it, or the maker does not say. Treat it as unknown.
