Why we chose it What put it on our list 4 points
    • EPA’s Safer Choice table lists “EasyDose Ultra Concentrated Laundry Detergent, Free & Clear” from Seventh Generation with the fragrance-free flag set to true. We read it on 2026-10-22.
    • The label on Seventh Generation’s page has 11 ingredients, each with its job: water, laureth-6, propylene glycol, octyl/decyl glucoside, glycerin, sodium oleate, sodium chloride, citric acid and three enzyme blends. It lists no fragrance, dye or preservative.
    • It is concentrated: 66 loads in a 23.1 fl oz bottle, one squeeze per load, according to the maker. At $13.15 that is about 20 cents a load.
    • A safety data sheet is linked from the page in English, Spanish and French.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy 4 points
    • Check the label of the size you buy. The brand’s other Free & Clear liquids (the 45, 90 and 135 fl oz detergent, the dish liquid, the dishwasher gel and the all-purpose cleaner) list benzisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone as preservatives. This EasyDose label does not.
    • Laureth-6 is an ethoxylated surfactant. Our laundry guide notes that 1,4-dioxane can be a contaminant of ethoxylation. We found no test result for this product.
    • It carries one independent mark. EWG’s Verified cleaning list has no Seventh Generation products.
    • Seventh Generation is owned by Unilever. In 2017 it settled a class action over “natural” and “non-toxic” claims, which cited the preservatives named above. The company denied wrongdoing.
What to know Details worth knowing first

Our guide to laundry products recommends fragrance-free detergent and a small dose. Seventh Generation’s EasyDose is a plain, widely stocked way to do that: a concentrate in a pump bottle, with a Free & Clear formula that EPA lists as fragrance-free.

Its place on this list rests on the EPA record and the label. It is a mainstream detergent, so the surfactants are synthetic ones made from plant oils, not soap. That is why we point out laureth-6 and the company’s history above. The label does not list the isothiazolinone preservatives that appear on some of the brand’s other liquids, which is the main reason we picked this product over its siblings.

Only one outside source backs it, and the brand’s own claims (biobased content, hypoallergenic, Leaping Bunny) are the maker’s. If you want two independent records or a shorter ingredient list, see the alternatives below.
