How we evaluated it
Why we chose it What put it on our list
- MADE SAFE’s directory lists Meliora’s All-Purpose Home Cleaner among eight Meliora products shown as certified.
- The unscented cleaner is one ingredient family, printed on the label: vegetable soap (potassium cocoate, sodium cocoate, glycerin, organic coconut oil, water). It lists no fragrance.
- It is concentrated: each tablet makes a 16 fl oz bottle, so a three-tablet refill box ($5.99) makes 48 fl oz, about $2 a bottle.
- Meliora says the tablets are preservative-free, and the refills come in a recyclable paperboard box.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy
- It is a cleaner, not a disinfectant. It has no EPA registration number and makes no germ claim, so use a different product if you need to kill germs.
- The only independent mark we could confirm is MADE SAFE. EPA’s Safer Choice table has no Meliora rows, and EWG Verified lists none of its cleaners.
- The page says it works on wood, stone, metal and glass, but gives no test and does not say how it performs in hard water.
- The first purchase is a kit with a glass bottle and a plastic sprayer. The glass can break.
What to know Details worth knowing first
Our guide to common cleaning products lists what to avoid in a spray cleaner: undisclosed fragrance, quaternary ammonium disinfectants and ingredients that are not on the label. Meliora’s All-Purpose Home Cleaner has none of them. It is coconut-oil soap pressed into a tablet that dissolves in a glass bottle of water.
The reason it is on the list is the MADE SAFE directory, which shows this cleaner as certified. That is one independent mark. We found no EPA Safer Choice or EWG Verified listing, and the claims about preservatives and surfaces come from Meliora.
It does not disinfect. Our guide to bleach and disinfectants recommends soap or detergent and water for everyday jobs, and our look at vinegar and baking soda says that for raw-meat juices or illness you clean first, then use 3% hydrogen peroxide or a labelled disinfectant for its contact time.
