Lab & biomarker tests

Direct-to-consumer blood, biological-age and other tests, judged on the lab behind them and what they can really tell you.

What we look for
  • A certified lab: the lab company named, with a CLIA record we can look up, ideally CAP-accredited for the kind of test it runs.
  • Clinician review: a licensed clinician orders the tests and follows up on out-of-range results, and the service says whether that means all results or only critical ones.
  • Validated markers: standard clinical tests, with research-only measures such as epigenetic clocks labeled as such.
  • Your data protected: a privacy policy that rules out selling identifiable health or genetic data, says what happens to de-identified data, and deletes account data on request.
  • Clear pricing: the full cost, including any membership, blood-draw fee or retest.
  • Scores or “biological age” results presented as a diagnosis.
  • Results that lead straight into the company’s own supplement sales, or a partner’s buying club.
  • IgG food-sensitivity panels, which allergy societies advise against, and catalogs that mix them in with proven tests.
