Lelit Mara X Heat Exchanger Espresso Machine
Reader ratings
A heat-exchange machine whose maker names 316L stainless steel, though not which part. A retailer lists the E61-style group and portafilter as chrome-plated brass; Lelit does not say the brass is lead-free or describe the tubing.
Best for Someone who wants a mid-priced heat-exchange machine with a maker-stated 316L stainless steel part and accepts brass in the group.

How we evaluated it
Why we chose it What put it on our list
- Lelit names a grade. Its product sheet reads “Boiler: 1.8 l with AISI316L stainless steel heat-exchanger”, and Whole Latte Love lists the boiler as stainless steel. In a heat-exchange machine the shot water passes through the exchanger, so that grade matters.
- The box holds a 35 L water softener filter, three IMS baskets (9 to 11 g, 14 to 18 g and 18 to 21 g), a blind basket and a stainless steel tamper.
- Lelit’s US warranty terms are published: 12 months from purchase, with a support-case process. The company says it is an affiliate of Breville USA.
- No Prop 65 notice and no recall naming Lelit turned up in our searches on 2026-10-22.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy
- Lelit does not say which part the “316L” covers, and it does not describe the group, tubing, pump or tank. Whole Latte Love lists the group and portafilter as chrome-plated brass and the tank as BPA-free plastic; nothing says the brass is lead-free.
- Lelit publishes no parts list and we found no third-party one, so the hoses, seals and pump cannot be read the way they can for the ECM and Profitec machines.
- Cover differs by seller: Lelit’s own warranty is 12 months, Whole Latte Love lists 3 years and Seattle Coffee Gear 1 year.
- Portafilter machines released the most metal of the three machine types in a German test, especially after descaling (PMID 26436214; machines not named). The test does not tell us about this machine.
What to know Details worth knowing first
The Mara X is Lelit’s heat-exchange machine with an E61-style group. Lelit’s product sheet gives a grade, AISI 316L stainless steel, in the line “Boiler: 1.8 l with AISI316L stainless steel heat-exchanger”. That is the most specific material statement we found among the heat-exchange machines we checked, but it does not say whether the 316L is the exchanger, the boiler or both.
Beyond that, Lelit says little. It does not describe the group, tubing, pump or tank, and it publishes no parts list. A retailer lists the group and portafilter as chrome-plated brass, and Lelit does not say whether its brass is lead-free; our guide to lead in cookware and food explains why we ask.
The one German test of coffee machines found metal release highest right after descaling, and its authors recommend careful rinsing afterwards. That applies to any portafilter machine. We are asking Lelit which parts touch brew water, whether its brass is lead-free and what the 316L covers, and we will update this page with its answer.
Quality & testing How it measures up against our checklist
| What we checked | What we found |
|---|---|

What the labels mean
- Verified We opened an independent record that confirms it: a certifier’s listing, a regulator’s list or a lab report. It is linked under Sources.
- Maker’s claim The maker says so on its own page or label. We read it but found no independent record.
- Not verified We looked and could not confirm it, or the maker does not say. Treat it as unknown.
