Why we chose it What put it on our list 4 points
    • Rocket states the boiler material. Its brochure describes “a 1.8 L copper heat-exchange boiler and redesigned E61 brew group”.
    • The water path can be read in part. Whole Latte Love’s parts diagram for the original Appartamento names the boiler, boiler-to-group pipe, valves, rubber connectors, silicone pipe (4 x 7 mm), gaskets, shower foil and group parts. The TCA’s own list is not online.
    • It is small and serviceable: 22 kg, one boiler and a vibration pump, with group gaskets, shower foils, baskets and portafilters sold in Rocket’s online shop. Rocket’s warranty is 2 years (1 year in the USA); the stores list 3.
    • No Prop 65 notice and no recall naming Rocket Espresso turned up in our searches on 2026-10-22.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy 4 points
    • Copper and brass are not the glass, ceramic or stainless steel our criteria prefer. Retailers list the group and portafilter as chrome-plated brass, and Rocket does not say whether any brass is lead-free.
    • Rocket does not describe the heat-exchange tube, tubing, pump or tank (plastic, per Whole Latte Love). The original Appartamento’s parts list names PTFE (“Teflon”) gaskets in the steam valve, a fitting and the group, but no PTFE or PFA tubing.
    • Rocket’s page and catalog disagree on the tank (1.9 L or 2.5 L) and wattage, so check the figures with a dealer.
    • Portafilter machines released the most metal of the three machine types in a German test, especially after descaling (PMID 26436214; machines not named). The test does not tell us about this machine.
What to know Details worth knowing first

The Appartamento TCA is Rocket’s compact heat-exchange machine, and by our criteria it is a compromise. Rocket’s brochure describes a copper boiler, and retailers list the E61 brew group and portafilter as chrome-plated brass. It is listed because it is well made, serviceable and Rocket states its boiler material; the gaps are stated here.

In a heat-exchange machine the water for your shot is pumped through a tube built into the boiler rather than drawn from the boiler itself, as Profitec explains for this design on its site. So the copper boiler may matter less than the tube, the group and the fittings. Rocket does not say what those are made of or whether its brass is lead-free; our guide to lead in cookware and food explains why we ask. The parts list for the older Appartamento names silicone pipe and PTFE (“Teflon”) gaskets, not PTFE tubing.

The one German test of coffee machines found metal release highest right after descaling, and its authors recommend careful rinsing after descaling. That applies to any portafilter machine. We are asking Rocket which parts touch brew water and whether its brass is lead-free, and we will update this page with its answer.

How Rocket Espresso Appartamento TCA Espresso Machine measures up against our coffee makers & gear criteria
What we checked What we found
Inert materials in the hot path Maker’s claim Copper heat-exchange boiler, stated by Rocket. Whole Latte Love lists the group and portafilter as chrome-plated brass, the steam wand as stainless steel and the tank as plastic. The heat-exchange tube, tubing and pump are not described. The older model’s parts list names no aluminum part.
Lead-free brass Not verified Not stated. The group and portafilter are chrome-plated brass per Whole Latte Love, with no lead-free statement, and we found no metal-release test.
No PTFE or PFA in the water path Not verified No PTFE or PFA tubing is named anywhere we looked. The parts list for the original Appartamento (not the TCA), as copied by Whole Latte Love, names PTFE (“Teflon”) gaskets in the steam valve, a 1/4 inch fitting and the group, plus rubber connectors and silicone pipe.
Filters you can name Not verified Single and double baskets ship with commercial 58 mm portafilters; the basket material is not stated.
Built to last Maker’s claim Group gaskets, shower foils, baskets and portafilters sold by Rocket; a parts diagram for the original model. Rocket’s warranty is 2 years (1 year in the USA), held by the dealer; Whole Latte Love and Seattle Coffee Gear each list 3 years.
California Prop 65 notices Verified No notice naming Rocket Espresso in the California Attorney General’s 60-day notice database (searched 2026-10-22; “Rocket” matches unrelated companies such as Rocket Fizz and Rocket 76).
Recalls Verified No Rocket Espresso recall in the US Consumer Product Safety Commission recall database (title search, 2026-10-22).
    What the labels mean
    • Verified We opened an independent record that confirms it: a certifier’s listing, a regulator’s list or a lab report. It is linked under Sources.
    • Maker’s claim The maker says so on its own page or label. We read it but found no independent record.
    • Not verified We looked and could not confirm it, or the maker does not say. Treat it as unknown.
