How we evaluated it
Why we chose it What put it on our list
- IAPMO R&T lists the PFM400H and 23 other PUR faucet models under NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401 (files W-29903 to W-29905, active). The 53 claims are lead, mercury, VOCs and “Total PFAS”; the 401 claims include microplastics, bisphenol A and several drugs.
- PUR’s data sheet shows lead reduced 99.6 to 99.7%, total PFAS 99.92%, microplastics 99.65% and VOCs 99.51%. It covers both the PUR (RF-3375) and PUR PLUS (RF-9999) filters with identical results.
- WQA also lists the PFM400H, with lead, mercury and many pesticides and VOCs under NSF/ANSI 53.
- The filter is rated for 100 gallons or about 3 months at 0.52 gallons a minute, and the unit has a filter-change light (PUR).
- Amazon listed a genuine 2-pack of PUR PLUS faucet filters at $27.85 (sold by Amazon.com), about $13.90 a filter, which is roughly $0.14 a gallon.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy
- It has to fit your faucet. PUR’s instructions start by removing the aerator and checking whether your threads are external or internal, and PUR has a separate adapter guide. Check it before you buy.
- Only genuine PUR filters carry the certification. Look-alike “compatible” filters are sold widely, and PUR says they are not guaranteed to give the same water quality.
- It does not reduce fluoride, nitrate or dissolved minerals, and PUR says it does not filter microbes. It is for cold water only; the data sheet gives 34 to 82 °F.
- PUR shows no price, so the prices here come from Amazon listings seen on 2026-10-22. The listing for this faucet mount does not show the model number.
What to know Details worth knowing first
A faucet mount filters water as it comes out of the tap, so there is no pitcher to refill. PUR’s PFM400H is rated at 0.52 gallons a minute and has a light that tells you when to change the filter. IAPMO R&T’s listing names lead, total PFAS, VOCs and microplastics for this model. Our guide to choosing a filter puts faucet mounts next to pitchers and reverse osmosis.
Two cautions. First, check the fit: not every faucet takes this style of mount. Second, buy genuine PUR filters. The certification applies to PUR’s own filters, not to the look-alikes sold for the same housing.
PUR’s site shows no price; the ones here come from Amazon listings seen on 2026-10-22, so check the current price. For lead in particular, see the neurotoxin in tap water and look up what’s in your water first.

What the labels mean
- Verified We opened an independent record that confirms it: a certifier’s listing, a regulator’s list or a lab report. It is linked under Sources.
- Maker’s claim The maker says so on its own page or label. We read it but found no independent record.
- Not verified We looked and could not confirm it, or the maker does not say. Treat it as unknown.
