How we evaluated it
Why we chose it What put it on our list
- There is no coating. Tramontina describes an aluminum core between two layers of “high-quality 18/10 stainless steel”, so food touches steel, not aluminum.
- The grade is named and the price is low: $39.95 (8 in), $44.95 (10 in) and $54.95 (12 in) on Tramontina’s own store.
- Heat limits are written down: oven safe to 500°F, and compatible with gas, electric, ceramic glass and induction.
- Tramontina says the pan is dishwasher safe, though it recommends hand washing with a non-abrasive sponge.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy
- The pan’s page gives no country of origin and no warranty terms. NSF’s listing for the pan’s model numbers names a factory in Guangdong, China. The matching cookware set page says “lifetime warranty”, and Tramontina’s FAQ lists what a warranty would not cover (overheating, harsh cleaners, normal wear).
- Tramontina says the pan is “NSF-certified”, and NSF’s listing confirms it under NSF/ANSI 2, the food equipment standard. The listing shows no test results, so we cannot say what it checks for nickel or chromium release.
- Food sticks to stainless steel unless the pan is preheated and you use fat. Our cookware guide also notes that stainless steel releases some nickel and chromium, mostly in the first uses, which matters mainly if you have a nickel allergy.
- Tramontina also sells ceramic non-stick pans. Check you are buying the stainless one.
What to know Details worth knowing first
Stainless steel is the plainest swap for a non-stick pan: nothing to flake, nothing to season. Our cookware guide covers how it compares with cast iron, carbon steel and enameled pans. This Tramontina pan is the cheap way in, and it names the steel (18/10) where many budget pans do not.
The trade is paperwork. We found the heat limits and the materials on the maker’s page, but not the country of origin or the warranty terms for this pan. NSF’s listing confirms the certification and names a factory in Guangdong, China, while the NSF numbers on Tramontina’s own page name a factory in Brazil, so we cannot say where this pan is made. That is why it is rated 3 and not 4.
Learn to preheat the pan and add oil or butter before the food goes in. Stainless steel is forgiving of heat and metal utensils, but it is not non-stick, and a stuck-on meal is the usual reason people give up on it.
Quality & testing How it measures up against our checklist
| What we checked | What we found |
|---|---|
| No PTFE or PFAS coating Maker’s claim | Described as uncoated tri-ply stainless steel. Tramontina’s non-stick lines are separate products. |
| Plain, named materials Maker’s claim | Aluminum core between two layers of 18/10 stainless steel, per Tramontina. Tramontina’s pages do not say where the pan is made; NSF’s listing for its model numbers names a factory in Guangdong, China. |
| Built to last Not verified | No warranty terms on the pan’s page. The cookware set page says it is backed by a lifetime warranty. The FAQ lists exclusions only. |
| Fits how you cook Maker’s claim | All cooktops including induction. Oven safe to 500°F. Dishwasher safe, hand washing recommended. Weight is not stated. |
| NSF certification Verified | NSF lists “Stainless Steel TPC Cookware” models 80116/004, 80116/005 and 80116/007, which match the SKUs of the 8, 10 and 12 in pans (80116/004DS, /005DS and /007DS), for Tramontina USA, Inc. under NSF/ANSI 2, Food Equipment. The listings name a factory in Guangdong, China. The three NSF numbers printed on Tramontina’s page (83116/012, /014 and /020) are also listed, for a factory in Farroupilha, Brazil. No test results are shown. |
What the labels mean
- Verified We opened an independent record that confirms it: a certifier’s listing, a regulator’s list or a lab report. It is linked under Sources.
- Maker’s claim The maker says so on its own page or label. We read it but found no independent record.
