Fresh Roasted Coffee Organic Peru Whole Bean

A budget organic Peru roasted to order, with the roast date on a sticker. USDA lists it as organic. The maker says it was tested for mold toxins and pesticides but names no lab and posts no report, so that part rests on the maker.

Best for Shoppers who want organic, fresh-roasted beans at a low price and can accept a testing claim without a posted report.

Why we chose it What put it on our list 5 points
    • USDA’s Organic Integrity Database lists Fresh Roasted Coffee LLC (Sunbury, Pennsylvania) as certified through Pennsylvania Certified Organic (status effective 4 February 2015, profile updated 16 September 2026). Its scope names “Single Origin - Peru”.
    • A roast date is on the package. The FAQ says it is on a white sticker at the bottom of every bag, in Julian-calendar code (the day of the year), and that orders placed before 12 PM Monday to Thursday, or 10 AM Friday to Sunday, are roasted the same day.
    • Price: about $15.99 for 12 oz, or $34.99 for 2 lb, which works out to about $1.09 an ounce.
    • The coffee is fully washed. Our mold-toxin guide says washed coffees generally carry less ochratoxin A than natural-process ones.
    • The company says it will not use the words “mold-free” or “clean coffee” because those phrases “are not honest or based in scientific fact”, and that it tests a selection of its coffees rather than all of them. This Peru is on the tested list.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy 4 points
    • The testing is the maker’s claim. The page says a certified third-party laboratory found no detectable mold, aflatoxin or ochratoxin, but names no lab, date or lot, and mentions “rapid testing” without detection limits. The page offers more information by email.
    • No pesticide or heavy-metal results are published, although the company says its tested coffees are screened for pesticides.
    • Organic does not mean residue-free. In 2025 Clean Label Project found AMPA, a glyphosate breakdown product that also comes from some water-treatment chemicals, in every organic coffee it tested. Glyphosate itself turned up in only two of its 57 coffees.
    • The Julian date code takes a moment to read. The company’s FAQ has a chart.
What to know Details worth knowing first

Fresh Roasted Coffee roasts to order in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, and puts the roast date on each bag. USDA’s organic database lists the company as a certified handler, with this Peru named in its scope. In the 2 lb bag it comes to about $1.09 an ounce.

Testing is where it differs from Purity. Fresh Roasted says an independent laboratory found no detectable mold, aflatoxin or ochratoxin in this coffee, but it does not name the lab or post the report. To its credit, the company says it will not use “mold-free” or “clean coffee”, because those phrases “are not honest or based in scientific fact”. We list it because the case for a bag like this is mostly organic farming plus freshness (see organic vs. conventional), and because, as our mold-toxin guide reports, average ochratoxin A intake from coffee stays below the tolerable daily intake for drinkers in most countries.

If you want to see numbers, ask the company for the report by email, or choose a roaster that posts one. Our mold-toxin guide explains what those numbers mean.
