Reviews are personal experiences, not research, and they never change our quality ratings. Every review is read by our team before it appears.

Why we chose it What put it on our list 4 points
    • The page lists 13 ingredients. The cleanser is sodium cocoyl isethionate, a surfactant rather than soap. The rest are coconut oil, stearic acid, cetyl and cetearyl alcohols, glyceryl stearate, panthenol, hydrolyzed rice protein, propanediol, behentrimonium methosulfate, polyquaternium 7, kaolin and a mineral pigment.
    • There is no fragrance line. The scented Moisturize bar is the same list plus “Natural Fragrance” with five named oils (lime, orange, lemon, grapefruit and ginger root).
    • HiBAR says the bar has no sulfates, parabens, phthalates, PEGs or silicones. Its page also says it is made in the company’s own Minnesota facility, in plastic-free packaging.
    • At $14.95, HiBAR says one bar lasts at least as long as two 24 oz bottles of liquid shampoo.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy 4 points
    • We found no independent ingredient screening: HiBAR does not claim EWG Verified or MADE SAFE, MADE SAFE’s index does not list it, and EWG’s Verified directory has no HiBAR listing. HiBAR’s pages also say it is Leaping Bunny certified and certified vegan. We did not open those listings, and they cover animal testing and vegan status, not ingredient safety.
    • The same page’s FAQ says HiBAR bars have “a gentle citrus aroma”. That looks like text carried over from the scented bar. If you need no scent at all, ask HiBAR before buying.
    • HiBAR calls the formula dye-free, but the list includes mineral pigment CI 77007, a colorant. It also uses two synthetic conditioning agents, behentrimonium methosulfate and polyquaternium 7.
    • Bars need to dry between uses. HiBAR says to stand the bar upright on a draining dish, and its conditioner is sold separately.
What to know Details worth knowing first

HiBAR’s Moisturize shampoo bar comes in two versions: the original, which includes “Natural Fragrance” made of five named citrus and ginger oils, and a fragrance-free one that drops that line. Because our checklist asks for no fragrance at all, we reviewed the fragrance-free bar. The scented one is the same list plus the oils, and is linked below.

HiBAR’s own site is the only maker page we could open. The cleanser is sodium cocoyl isethionate, not soap, and the page lists all 13 ingredients. Our guide to shampoo and body care suggests gentle, sulfate-free cleansers, and this bar fits that. It does not have an outside ingredient review, which is why it scores a 3. For why that matters, see our guide to what “clean” and “non-toxic” labels mean.

If scent matters to you, check the odd FAQ line first. HiBAR’s page for this bar still describes a citrus aroma.

    • Not verified We looked and could not confirm it, or the maker does not say. Treat it as unknown.
