Reviews are personal experiences, not research, and they never change our quality ratings. Every review is read by our team before it appears.

Why we chose it What put it on our list 4 points
    • The National Eczema Association’s directory lists “SEEN Shampoo, Fragrance Free” with its Seal of Acceptance. Its ingredient list there has the same 19 ingredients as SEEN’s page, and none is fragrance.
    • The cleanser is sodium lauroyl methyl isethionate with cocamidopropylamine oxide, a sulfate-free system. Our shampoo guide suggests sulfate-free cleansers.
    • SEEN says what “formulated without” means: fragrance, sulfates, silicones, phthalates, parabens, dyes and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives are not intentionally added, and trace impurities cannot always be ruled out.
    • The National Psoriasis Foundation’s directory also lists “SEEN Shampoo, Fragrance Free” under its Seal of Recognition. That page repeats SEEN’s “formulated without” claims and gives no ingredient list.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy 4 points
    • About $3.72 an ounce, roughly four times Vanicream’s shampoo.
    • The 19 ingredients include three preservative-type ingredients (phenoxyethanol, sodium benzoate, ethylhexylglycerin) and polymers such as acrylates copolymer and polyquaternium-7.
    • The National Eczema Association’s Seal is a different review from EWG Verified and MADE SAFE, the two our checklist names. SEEN claims neither, MADE SAFE’s index does not list it, and EWG’s Verified directory has no SEEN listing.
    • SEEN’s page claims benefits such as less breakage and frizz, marked with an asterisk for use with its conditioner. We did not evaluate them.
What to know Details worth knowing first

Our guide to shampoo and body care points to sulfate-free cleansers, and our fragrance guide explains why we look for no fragrance at all. SEEN’s shampoo meets both, and it has an outside listing behind the label.

That listing is the National Eczema Association’s Seal of Acceptance, which we confirmed in NEA’s own directory. It is a different screen from EWG Verified or MADE SAFE, so we note it as such. The directory also reproduces SEEN’s full ingredient list, which matches the maker’s page.

The cost is price and length. At about $32 for 8.6 fl oz it is the most expensive shampoo we list, and with 19 ingredients, including preservatives and synthetic polymers, it is not as short as a bar. For a plain, cheaper option see the Vanicream shampoo below. For what eczema care involves beyond shampoo, see natural management of eczema.

Fragrance-free Verified The directory entry is titled “Fragrance Free” and its list has no fragrance. SEEN says it is formulated without fragrance.
Short formula Verified 19 ingredients, including preservatives and synthetic polymers. Longer than our other shampoo picks.
    What the labels mean
    • Verified We opened an independent record that confirms it: a certifier’s listing, a regulator’s list or a lab report. It is linked under Sources.
    • Maker’s claim The maker says so on its own page or label. We read it but found no independent record.
    • Not verified We looked and could not confirm it, or the maker does not say. Treat it as unknown.
