How we evaluated it
Why we chose it What put it on our list
- An outside lab report is open to read. Light Labs, which describes itself as ISO 17025 accredited, lists 30 PFAS compounds all below 0.007 to 0.1 ppb, and BPA, BPF and BPS not detected, for Made In’s stainless clad pans.
- Made In names the layers: 304-grade 18/10 stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy and ferritic 403 stainless steel, in a 2.7 mm, 5-ply body, “crafted in Italy”.
- Limits are written down: heat safe to 800°F, and compatible with gas, electric and induction cooktops.
- Made In offers a lifetime warranty on stainless clad cookware against defects in materials and workmanship, plus a 60-day trial.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy
- The test report has gaps. The pass limit is “set by Made In Cookware”, not a regulator, the report covers “submitted samples” without saying who chose them, and it shows no tests for lead, cadmium, nickel or chromium. Made In’s “made without lead and cadmium” line is the maker’s word.
- Hand washing is preferred, according to Made In’s care text, and you should heat and cool the pan slowly.
- The page says the pan is “crafted in Italy from 5 layers of domestic and imported metal”, and elsewhere “Made in Italy and the US”, so the metal itself comes from more than one country.
- Made In also sells PTFE-coated non-stick and ceramic-coated pans. Check you are buying the Stainless Clad.
What to know Details worth knowing first
Made In is one of few cookware brands that links to an outside lab’s results from its product pages. For a stainless steel pan, a clean PFAS panel is the expected answer, because the pan has no coating to contain any. What the report gives you is an independent confirmation that nothing fluorinated is on it, plus a bisphenol check. Our cookware guide explains why a bare steel surface is the simplest way to avoid PFAS.
The report does not answer the other question people ask about stainless steel, which is how much nickel and chromium leaves the pan. It has no metals results, and Made In’s own limit sets the pass line. Our guide notes that stainless steel releases a little of both, mostly in the first uses, and that it matters mainly for people with a nickel allergy.
The pan is made in Italy, names its steel grade and carries a lifetime warranty. It costs about the same as the All-Clad pan.
Quality & testing How it measures up against our checklist

| What we checked | What we found |
|---|---|
| No PTFE or PFAS coating Verified | Uncoated stainless steel. Light Labs’ report for Made In’s Stainless Clad pans shows 30 PFAS compounds below 0.007 to 0.1 ppb (tested 2025-02-14), and BPA, BPF and BPS not detected (tested 2025-09-19). |
| Plain, named materials Maker’s claim | Five layers: 304-grade 18/10 stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy and ferritic 403 stainless steel. Made in Italy. Stated in Made In’s product FAQ. |
| Built to last Maker’s claim | Lifetime warranty on stainless clad cookware against defects in materials and workmanship, with cosmetic changes excluded. 60-day trial. |
| Fits how you cook Maker’s claim | Gas, electric and induction. Heat safe to 800°F. Handwash preferred. The 10 in weighs 2.25 lb. |
| Lead, cadmium, nickel and chromium Not verified | Made In says its Stainless Clad pieces are made without lead and cadmium. The Light Labs report we opened has no metals tests, so we could not confirm this. |
What the labels mean
- Verified We opened an independent record that confirms it: a certifier’s listing, a regulator’s list or a lab report. It is linked under Sources.
- Maker’s claim The maker says so on its own page or label. We read it but found no independent record.
- Not verified We looked and could not confirm it, or the maker does not say. Treat it as unknown.
