Why we chose it What put it on our list
- MADE SAFE’s index lists “Bath and Body Soap” as certified in all sizes and in five scents: Lavender, Lemongrass, Peppermint, Tea Tree and Unscented.
- Six ingredients, listed on the page: sodium cocoate, sodium sunflowerate, glycerin, water, organic coconut oil and organic sunflower seed oil.
- The unscented bar has no essential oil. Meliora says the scented bars list their oils on the front label, and it publishes a chart of the fragrance allergens in them.
- Meliora says the bar has no palm oil, preservatives or dyes, and that it is made in the USA with about 70% domestic materials.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy
- About $1.75 an ounce on the maker’s site, against about $1.04 for Dr. Bronner’s. A six-pack is $39.99.
- It is a lye soap, and Meliora does not state a pH. Our skin microbiome guide suggests cleansers near pH 5.5, and soap is typically more alkaline than that.
- One customer review on Meliora’s page says the unscented bar still had a strong scent. Soap made from coconut and sunflower oils has its own smell.
- The “fragrance-free” and ingredient claims are Meliora’s. MADE SAFE’s entry does not reproduce the ingredient list.
What to know Details worth knowing first

Buy the unscented version if you want no fragrance at all. The scented bars use organic essential oils, which Meliora lists on the label and in an allergen chart, but they are still scented. We read the unscented bar’s ingredient list on Meliora’s page and found no fragrance line.
It is a soap made with lye, so the pH caution in our skin microbiome guide applies. If your skin is dry or eczema-prone, a syndet bar or liquid cleanser may suit better.

- Dr. Bronner’s Unscented Pure-Castile Bar Soap A 5 oz bar at about $5.19 with ten ingredients. Its EWG Verified claim is the maker’s.
