Mito Red Light MitoMAX 2.0

Reader ratings
Mito Red Light MitoMAX 2.0

A 36-inch plug-in panel from a maker that shows lab-measured output (about 56 mW/cm² at 6 inches) beside its solar-meter figure. We could not open the lab reports, and flicker and eye protection are not stated.

Best for Someone who wants one panel long enough for a torso, back or legs in one position, at a lower price per square inch than the premium panels.

Reviews are personal experiences, not research, and they never change our quality ratings. Every review is read by our team before it appears.

Why we chose it What put it on our list 4 points
    • Mito prints two irradiance figures at 6 inches and explains the gap: more than 155 mW/cm² on a consumer solar meter and more than 70 mW/cm² on a laboratory spectroradiometer.
    • Mito’s testing page lists LightLab International (Allentown, PA) results for this model: an average of 55.7 and a peak of 68.3 mW/cm² at 6 inches, and 113.4 W of radiant power, tested 10 May 2023. The full reports are available on request.
    • An affiliate reviewer measured another Mito panel, the PRO 1500X, at 68 mW/cm² on average at 6 inches, against more than 160 on the maker’s solar-meter figure. Mito’s table gives that panel an average of 53.5 and a peak of 72.5, so the lab-style numbers and the review are in the same range.
    • It has a 2-year warranty, a 60-day money-back guarantee and free shipping in the lower 48 states. Mito Red Light LLC is a US company (Scottsdale, Arizona) that FDA lists as a registered establishment.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy 4 points
    • We could not open the lab reports. The product page says “>70 mW/cm²” by laboratory test, which is above the peak (68.3) in Mito’s own table for this model. We used the table.
    • The “68,040 joules in 10 minutes” on the page is the whole panel’s radiant energy (113.4 W × 600 s), not a dose. Under the panel at 6 inches, 10 minutes is about 33 J/cm² by Mito’s table.
    • The page does not say whether eye protection is included (Mito sells red-light glasses separately, $13.95 to $29.99) and says nothing about flicker. The “0.5–1 mG” magnetic-field figure has no stated method.
    • Brand note: Mito began recalling its battery-powered Mito Mobile Super handheld on 12 February 2025 after a charging fire (FDA Class 2 recall Z-2478-2026, posted 17 June 2026; Mito reports no injuries). This plug-in panel is not part of that recall.
What to know Details worth knowing first

The MitoMAX 2.0 is a 36 × 9 inch panel with 200 LEDs, half 660 nm red and half 850 nm near-infrared. Mito says that at 36 inches it covers a torso, back or legs in one position. Our guides explain how red light therapy works and what the research supports for skin, pain and recovery.

Its output is about the same as the small MitoMIN 2.0’s, per Mito’s own lab table, so you are paying for area. At about $2.31 per square inch it costs roughly 40% less per square inch than the PlatinumLED Ultra. It also means longer sessions than a stronger panel needs: dose is irradiance times time, as our benefits and usage guide shows.

As with the MitoMIN, the lab numbers are Mito’s, and the product page quotes a higher lab figure than its own table. We list it because Mito shows both the solar-meter and the lab figure and names the lab. A buyer who wants reports they can open should look at PlatinumLED.

How Mito Red Light MitoMAX 2.0 measures up against our red light therapy criteria
What we checked What we found
Measured output Maker’s claim Product page: more than 155 mW/cm² by solar meter and more than 70 mW/cm² by laboratory spectroradiometer at 6 inches. Mito’s testing table lists a LightLab average of 55.7 and a peak of 68.3 mW/cm² (tested 10 May 2023). The full report is not public, and we could not check it.
Independent measurement of a sibling model Not verified Light Therapy Insiders, an affiliate reviewer cited by LightTherapyIQ, measured the MitoPRO 1500X at 68 mW/cm² on average at 6 inches (nine-point grid, spectrometer not named). We found no independent measurement of the MitoMAX itself.
Wavelengths Maker’s claim Mito says 50% red (peak 660 nm) and 50% near-infrared (peak 850 nm). We did not see a spectrum we could check.
Regulatory status Verified Mito says “FDA Class II registered”. FDA lists Mito Red Light LLC (registration 3015313684, active) with infrared-lamp listings (product code ILY, exempt from 510(k)) for many product families, including “Mito Red Original 2 Series”. The listing names families, not each model. There is no clearance.
Flicker and eye safety Not verified The page does not mention flicker or eye protection.
Electrical safety Verified Intertek’s ETL directory lists Mito Red Light LLC’s luminaires, with MitoMIN 2.0, MitoMID 2.0, MitoMAX 2.0 and MitoMEGA 2.0 named, to UL 1598, CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 250.0 and UL 8800 (horticultural lighting equipment). These are lighting-equipment listings, not the medical-electrical standard (IEC 60601) that PlatinumLED’s listing uses, and they show no certificate number or date. Mito also says ISO 9001/14001 and BSCI certified; no certificate is linked, and we did not look them up.
Warranty and returns Maker’s claim 2-year warranty, 60-day money-back guarantee, free shipping in the lower 48 states.
Recall history Verified One FDA recall under Mito’s name: Z-2478-2026, Class 2, for the battery-powered Mito Mobile Super (FDA lists it as “Mito Red Light, Super Mobile”, product code ILY). Mito began the recall on 12 February 2025. FDA posted it on 17 June 2026, the year in the recall number, and lists it as classified and open. FDA’s stated reason is that the lithium-ion battery may malfunction and catch fire. Mito’s own recall page says the recall applies only to the Mito Mobile Super (sold May 2023 to September 2024, no longer made), not to the standard Mito Mobile or the MitoPRO Mobile, and that no one was injured.
Price per area Maker’s claim About $2.31 per square inch of panel (36 × 9 in), from Mito’s dimensions.
    What the labels mean
    • Verified We opened an independent record that confirms it: a certifier’s listing, a regulator’s list or a lab report. It is linked under Sources.
    • Maker’s claim The maker says so on its own page or label. We read it but found no independent record.
    • Not verified We looked and could not confirm it, or the maker does not say. Treat it as unknown.
