PlatinumLED BIOMAX PRO ULTRA

Reader ratings
PlatinumLED BIOMAX PRO ULTRA

A large panel with independent-lab output reports at four distances, ETL and Health Canada listings and a 3-year warranty. Its headline irradiance is more than double the lab’s, and its FDA wording needs care.

Best for Someone who wants one large panel for torso or full-body sessions and will pay for lab-measured output, a long warranty and published safety paperwork.

Reviews are personal experiences, not research, and they never change our quality ratings. Every review is read by our team before it appears.

Why we chose it What put it on our list 4 points
    • PlatinumLED publishes the full report from LightLab International (Allentown, PA), measured with Gigahertz-Optik spectral irradiance meters. On the high-power setting at 6 inches the average was 103 mW/cm² (center 121), and 91, 80 and 70 mW/cm² at 12, 18 and 24 inches.
    • At 6 inches about 56 of those 103 mW/cm² was red (600–700 nm) and about 45 was near-infrared (780–1700 nm). LightLab’s spectrum plot shows main peaks near 660 and 850 nm, a smaller red peak near 635 nm and a shoulder at 810–830 nm.
    • Health Canada’s database lists licence 115549 (Class II) for the PlatinumLED Therapy Light family, and PlatinumLED’s copy of the licence names the Ultra. Intertek’s own ETL directory lists the Ultra to medical-electrical safety standards (ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 and CSA C22.2 No. 60601-1) and says it was also tested to IEC 60601-2-57 for non-laser light sources.
    • The warranty is 3 years (repair or replace), and the box includes eye protection and a remote. A phone line is staffed on weekdays.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy 4 points
    • The headline chart on the product page says 292 mW/cm² at 6 inches and more than 200 at 12 inches. That is more than double LightLab’s figures for the same panel, no method is given, and the 292 figure is not in the lab report. Use the lab numbers.
    • The page says “FDA Class II Medical Device”. FDA’s database shows registration and listing under an infrared-lamp code that is exempt from 510(k) review, so it is not cleared or approved. In May 2025 Truth in Advertising reported an FDA logo and “FDA approved” wording on the site; PlatinumLED then removed the “approved” wording and removed or replaced the logo.
    • It costs about $3.78 per square inch of panel, against about $2.31 for the Mito panels we list. Returns carry a 20% restocking fee on elective returns, and you pay return shipping.
    • No flicker test is published, and the “0.0 µT at 4 in” magnetic-field figure has no stated method. The Pro series has a pulsed mode (0–9,999 Hz) that PlatinumLED itself says has no proven benefit.
What to know Details worth knowing first

The BIOMAX PRO Ultra is the largest single panel in PlatinumLED’s Pro line: 432 LEDs behind a 36 × 12 inch face, mostly red (630 and 660 nm) and near-infrared (810 to 850 nm). Our guides explain how red light therapy works and what the research shows for skin, pain and recovery.

Most brands print one irradiance number with no method. PlatinumLED links full reports from an independent test lab, with the instrument, the distance and every grid point. That is why it is listed. It is also why we can say its own headline chart is too high: the lab’s average at 6 inches is 103 mW/cm², and the chart says 292. Irradiance sets how long a session takes to deliver a given dose. It does not make the light work better on its own, so use the lab figures when you work out timing.

Read the regulatory wording with care. FDA lists the panel as a registered infrared lamp. That is a Class II category, but it is exempt from FDA review, so the panel is not cleared for any named use. For the evidence behind the benefits, start with our guide to benefits and usage.

How PlatinumLED BIOMAX PRO ULTRA measures up against our red light therapy criteria
What we checked What we found
Measured output Verified LightLab report LLIA002684-006 (tested 9 June 2025, high-power setting, 772.6 W) gives total irradiance (350–1700 nm) at 6 inches of 103 mW/cm² on average over a 6 × 6 inch grid of 49 points (center 121, range 83 to 124). At 12, 18 and 24 inches the averages are 91, 80 and 70. PlatinumLED commissioned and published the report, and the grid covers only a 6 × 6 inch area of a 36-inch panel. LightLab’s own site and its reports cite NVLAP accreditation (lab code 201079-0); we could not open NIST’s NVLAP directory to confirm that the scope covers these measurements.
Headline output claims Not verified The product page’s intensity chart gives 292 mW/cm² at 6 inches, more than 200 at 12, 192 at 18 and 170 at 24, with no method. Several PlatinumLED blog posts say LightLab measured “up to 292 mW/cm² at 6 inches”. We did not find that figure in the report.
Wavelengths Verified LightLab’s spectrum plot (report LLIA002639-008A, 793 W, tested 14 April 2025) shows peaks near 660 and 850 nm, a smaller peak near 635 nm and a shoulder at 810–830 nm. The 480 nm and 1060 nm LEDs add very little. The page lists seven wavelengths: 480, 630, 660, 810, 830, 850 and 1060 nm.
Regulatory status Verified FDA lists Platinum LED Holdings LLC (registration 3015619571, active) and the BIOMAX PRO ULTRA under product code ILY, infrared lamp, Class II, exempt from 510(k). There is no 510(k) clearance. Health Canada licence 115549 (Class II, issued 8 June 2026) covers the PlatinumLED Therapy Light family, and PlatinumLED’s copy of the licence names the BIOMAX PRO ULTRA among its models.
FDA wording on the maker’s pages Not verified The product page says “FDA Class II Medical Device”. The certifications page describes FDA registration as a process that ensures a device is safe and effective, which registration does not do. Truth in Advertising (27 May 2025) reported an FDA logo and “FDA approved” wording on the site; PlatinumLED removed the “approved” wording and removed or replaced the logo.
Electrical safety Verified Intertek’s ETL directory lists Platinum LED Holdings LLC’s BIOMAX Therapy Light, models BIOMAX PRO Ultra and BIOMAX PRO Grande, to ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 (ETL Listed Mark) and to CAN/CSA C22.2 Nos. 60601-1, 60601-1-6 and 60601-2-57 (cETL Listed Mark), and says they were also tested to IEC 60601-1-6 and IEC 60601-2-57. The listing shows no certificate number or date. PlatinumLED also hosts the matching Authorization to Mark (control no. 5008784, issued 15 July 2025), which names E.shine Systems Limited of Shenzhen as manufacturer.
Flicker and eye safety Not verified No flicker measurement is published; PlatinumLED says the Pro series can run “flicker-free or pulsed”. The box list includes eye protection.
Magnetic-field claim Maker’s claim “0.0 µT at 4 in” on the spec table. No method is stated.
Warranty and returns Maker’s claim 3-year warranty; claims need photos or video. 60-day return window, customer pays return shipping, and a 20% restocking fee applies to elective returns. Support by phone and email.
    What the labels mean
    • Verified We opened an independent record that confirms it: a certifier’s listing, a regulator’s list or a lab report. It is linked under Sources.
    • Maker’s claim The maker says so on its own page or label. We read it but found no independent record.
    • Not verified We looked and could not confirm it, or the maker does not say. Treat it as unknown.
