Naked Whey (Grass-Fed Whey Protein Powder, Unflavored)

Reader ratings
Naked Whey (Grass-Fed Whey Protein Powder, Unflavored)

One-ingredient whey that Informed Choice lists. Naked says NSF certifies its contents, which we could not check. Eight Prop 65 lead notices since 2018 name the company; one names its chocolate whey, not this one.

Best for Budget buyers who want an unflavored, one-ingredient whey and will wait for the NSF listing and lead results we are asking Naked for.

Why we chose it What put it on our list 4 points
    • Informed Choice’s list of certified products (October 2026) names Naked Whey and Less Naked Whey among six Naked products. Informed Choice tests for banned substances.
    • The label is one ingredient, grass-fed whey protein powder, with 25 g of protein and 5.9 g of BCAAs per serving, per Naked. Naked lists no sweeteners, flavors or colors.
    • At Naked’s store the 5 lb is $139.99, about $1.84 a serving, or $111.99 on autoship (about $1.47).
    • Naked says where its testing stands. Its FAQ says third-party results are not yet on its product pages and that it does not test for PCBs.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy 4 points
    • The NSF claim is unchecked. Naked says its proteins are NSF Contents Certified, meaning heavy metals and pesticides were screened. NSF’s dietary-supplement listing refused our connection, and its Certified for Sport program lists no Naked brand. In 2025 Naked told Consumer Reports it was “in the process of obtaining” NSF certification.
    • Eight Prop 65 notices since 2018 name Naked Whey, Inc., all for lead and some for cadmium or mercury. Most name plant proteins, greens, an electrolyte powder or “dietary supplements” in general. The one naming a whey (AG 2025-03588, Sept. 2025, Center for Consumer Safety) lists protein powder and gives the chocolate grass-fed whey on Amazon as its example. Notices are allegations, and none names the unflavored whey.
    • We have no lead numbers. Naked says its products are “well under” FDA limits and posts no lot reports. Consumer Reports’ 2025 test found 7.7 µg of lead in a serving of Naked’s Vegan Mass Gainer, the highest it recorded, and did not test the whey.
    • “Grass-fed” and “small farms” are the maker’s words, with no certifier or farm named. Its FAQ says the cows graze “whenever possible.” A concentrate (about 82% protein, says Naked) has more lactose than an isolate.
What to know Details worth knowing first

Naked Whey is the plain option many people reach for: one ingredient, grass-fed whey protein, and a price near $1.84 a serving at 5 lb. Our whey protein guide covers what whey does, and our dairy guide covers how milk products fit into a diet.

What we could confirm is a listing in Informed Choice’s certified products, which screens for banned substances. What we could not confirm is the claim that matters most in this category, heavy-metal testing. Naked says its proteins are NSF Contents Certified. NSF’s listing site did not answer our requests, and Naked has no lot reports on its product pages yet, so we have no numbers.

There are reasons for care. The Attorney General’s database lists eight lead notices naming the company since 2018, one of them for a chocolate whey in 2025, and Consumer Reports found the highest lead of its 2025 test in a Naked plant-based product, which is not a whey. Both are signals, not findings about this powder. We are asking Naked for its NSF listing and for lead results on the unflavored whey. For how seals compare, see how to tell if a supplement is pure.

How Naked Whey (Grass-Fed Whey Protein Powder, Unflavored) measures up against our protein powders & shakes criteria
What we checked What we found
Third-party tested: banned substances Verified Informed Choice’s October 2026 list names Naked Whey under Naked Nutrition. We could not see which sizes, flavors or lots it covers, because its product pages sit behind a human check.
Third-party tested: NSF Contents Certified Maker’s claim Naked’s page and FAQ say its proteins are NSF Contents Certified. We could not open NSF’s dietary-supplement listing (info.nsf.org refused connections). NSF Certified for Sport, a different program, lists no Naked brand (checked 2026-10-22).
Heavy metals checked Not verified No lead, cadmium or arsenic result is posted. The product page says Naked’s products are independently tested and “well under” FDA limits, with no figures. Consumer Reports did not test the whey.
A plain label Maker’s claim One ingredient: grass-fed whey protein powder. 25 g protein per serving. No added amino acids listed.
Disclosed extras Maker’s claim None in the unflavored powder. Flavored versions were not reviewed. Contains milk.
A clear source Maker’s claim Naked says the cows are grass-fed, free-roaming and raised without rBGH or rBST on small non-GMO farms. No certifier or farm is named.
Prop 65 notices Verified Eight notices name Naked Whey, Inc., from 2018 to July 2026 (AG 2026-03220 is for an electrolyte powder). The only one naming a whey is AG 2025-03588, filed 2025-09-11, which gives the chocolate grass-fed whey as its example. One 2019 notice (AG 2019-01823) was settled with a packager, Koru Pacific Packaging.
    What the labels mean
    • Verified We opened an independent record that confirms it: a certifier’s listing, a regulator’s list or a lab report. It is linked under Sources.
    • Maker’s claim The maker says so on its own page or label. We read it but found no independent record.
    • Not verified We looked and could not confirm it, or the maker does not say. Treat it as unknown.
