Why we chose it What put it on our list 5 points
    • NSF’s Certified for Sport database lists the unflavored powder (id 1756600; 999 g and 1,831.5 g packs; four lots: 25082050, 26071522, 26081255 and 24102973). Informed Choice’s list also names “Whey Protein Isolate.”
    • Transparent Labs’ third-party tests page posts a certificate of analysis by lot. The unflavored report we opened (lot 26081254, received Aug. 25, 2026) shows per 33.3 g serving: lead 0.23 µg, cadmium 0.03 µg, total arsenic 0.17 µg and mercury under 0.03 µg, by ICP-MS at Advanced Laboratories.
    • The 4 lb label has two ingredients, grass-fed whey protein isolate (33.2 g) and sunflower lecithin (100 mg), with 28 g of protein, 0 g of added sugar and 130 calories per scoop.
    • Consumer Reports said that, of the brands it tested, only Momentous and Transparent Labs told it they publish results on their websites.
    • The 4 lb unflavored is $109.99, about $2.00 a serving or 7 cents per gram of protein, among the lowest per gram of protein on our list.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy 5 points
    • The reports are ordered by Transparent Labs, not by an outside body, and the one we read is stamped “Preliminary Results” and labeled for the 30-serving pack, not the 4 lb tub. The NSF listing adds an outside check, but NSF’s lead limit, 10 µg a day as Consumer Reports describes it, is far looser than CR’s 0.5 µg.
    • Consumer Reports tested the brand’s Mass Gainer (0.43 µg of lead a serving) but not this isolate, so we found no independent figure for it.
    • “Sourced exclusively from grass-fed American dairy cattle” is the maker’s wording. No certifier or farm is named.
    • The 2 lb unflavored was out of stock when we looked, and flavored versions carry other ingredients we did not review.
    • Two 2025 Prop 65 lead notices named other Transparent Labs products (Hydrate electrolytes, one of them settled, and Prebiotic Greens). We found none for the whey.
What to know Details worth knowing first

Transparent Labs’ unflavored isolate is two ingredients: grass-fed whey protein isolate and a pinch of sunflower lecithin. Isolate has less lactose than concentrate, which can matter if milk sugar bothers you; our whey protein guide covers the difference and what whey does.

Two things put it on this list. NSF’s Certified for Sport database lists the unflavored powder with four lots. And the company posts certificates of analysis by lot number, which is rare. We opened one, for an August 2026 lot, and it shows lead at 0.23 µg a scoop. Consumer Reports’ level of concern for lead is 0.5 µg a day, so that lot sits under it.

The limits are worth knowing. The reports are the maker’s own, and the one we read is marked preliminary. NSF’s mark is an outside check, but its lead limit is much looser than Consumer Reports’. We found no lead figure for this exact isolate from an independent body. If you buy it, match your lot number against the posted reports. For how the seals compare, see how to tell if a supplement is pure, and for the protein question itself, how much protein you need.
