Why we chose it What put it on our list 4 points
    • Profitec names the boilers: a “0.75 l stainless steel coffee boiler” and a “2.0 l stainless steel steam and hot water boiler”, plus a brew group with a “stainless steel mushroom”.
    • A retailer’s copy of Profitec’s parts list names more: silicone hose (5 x 8 mm), metal flex hoses, a metal filter (“gigleur”) in the group, brass fittings and PTFE (“Teflon”) washers and gaskets. It names no PTFE or PFA tubing.
    • It ships with a bottomless portafilter and silicone attachment, 7 g, 14 g and 21 g baskets and a metal hose for plumbing in. Profitec says spare parts come only from authorised dealers and recommends servicing every 3 to 4 years.
    • No Prop 65 notice and no recall naming Profitec turned up in our searches on 2026-10-22.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy 4 points
    • Profitec does not say whether its brass is lead-free. Whole Latte Love lists the E61 group and portafilter as chrome-plated brass, and the parts list names a chromatized brass drain nozzle and a brass cross fitting. We found no metal-release test.
    • Beyond the boilers and the mushroom, Profitec names no material. The parts list does not say what lines the metal hoses or what the pump body and tank (plastic, per Whole Latte Love) are made of. PTFE washers sit in the boiler fittings, the group, the flow valve and the steam valve.
    • Profitec sells only through dealers. Its FAQ says machines with a rotary pump cannot use the tank filter adapters, so you need filter pads or pre-filtered water.
    • At about $3,449 it costs more than six times the Gaggia Classic Pro, and only one US dealer was open to us.
What to know Details worth knowing first

The Drive is Profitec’s dual-boiler machine with a rotary pump and a flow profile valve. Profitec names the boilers (stainless steel) and the stainless steel mushroom in its brew group, which is more than some makers say. It is listed with a notice because most of the rest of the water path is described only by a retailer’s copy of its parts list.

That list shows silicone hose, metal flex hoses, brass fittings and PTFE (“Teflon”) washers and gaskets, with no PTFE or PFA tubing. The E61 group and portafilter are chrome-plated brass per the retailer. Profitec does not say whether its brass is lead-free, and we found no test. Our guide to lead in cookware and food explains why we ask.

The one German test of coffee machines found metal release highest right after descaling, and its authors recommend careful rinsing afterwards. That applies to any portafilter machine. We are asking Profitec which parts touch brew water and whether its brass is lead-free, and we will update this page with its answer.
