Why we chose it What put it on our list 4 points
    • Clean Label Project’s certificate for Puori lists PW1 Bourbon Vanilla and Dark Chocolate with the Purity Award and Pesticide Free marks. CLP’s 2025 study of 165 protein powders put PW1 Bourbon Vanilla in its Clean Sixteen, which it describes as non-detect for lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic.
    • Puori posts a report for each batch, produced by Ellipse Analytics (an ISO/IEC 17025 lab) under CLP’s Transparency Project. Batch BO240838, dated Mar. 17, 2026, shows per serving: lead 0.25 µg against a 0.5 µg tolerance, cadmium 0.71 µg against 4.1, and arsenic and mercury not detected. It also passes for bisphenols, glyphosate, phthalates, pesticides, residual solvents and antibiotics.
    • The same report checks the label: 21 g of protein claimed, 21.15 g found.
    • Five ingredients, all named: whey protein concentrate, coconut palm sugar, Bourbon vanilla seeds, vanilla powder and a natural flavor from fermented stevia (0.2% of the product). No added amino acids.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy 6 points
    • It is a premium price: $79 for 30 servings, about $2.63 a serving or 12 cents per gram of protein.
    • CLP’s listing names the vanilla and dark chocolate, not the unflavored PW1 that Puori also sells. The certificate on CLP’s site was issued Jan. 1, 2025 and renews each year, and we did not see a newer one.
    • A May 22, 2026 Prop 65 notice (AG 2026-02398) alleges lead in protein powder and names Puori’s CP2 Active Collagen and Whey Protein as its example, not PW1. It is worded by product type, so it does not rule PW1 out. Puori’s notice history also includes a resolved 2018 case.
    • Results vary by batch. The sample in CLP’s 2025 study was non-detect for lead, while the batch report we read (dated March 2026, naming PW1 but no flavor) had 0.25 µg.
    • It is not on NSF’s, Informed Choice’s or Informed Sport’s lists, so we found no banned-substance testing.
    • “Grass-fed, pasture-raised” is the maker’s wording, with no certifier or farm named. The coconut palm sugar adds a little sugar.
What to know Details worth knowing first

Puori is the only whey we found whose batch reports come through an outside certifier. They are part of Clean Label Project’s Transparency Project, and the lab, Ellipse Analytics, is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025. The batch we read shows lead at 0.25 µg a serving, half of the 0.5 µg tolerance it is judged against. Our lead guide explains why we care about small amounts.

The label is short and every ingredient is named, including a little coconut palm sugar and a stevia-derived flavor. Our whey protein guide covers what whey does, and how much protein you need covers how much.

Three cautions. It costs about $2.63 a serving. Clean Label Project’s list names the vanilla and chocolate but not the unflavored powder. And it is not on NSF’s or Informed’s lists, so tested athletes should look elsewhere. A 2026 Prop 65 notice about lead in protein powder names a different Puori product as its example, not PW1. For how these checks fit together, see how to tell if a supplement is pure.

    • Verified We opened an independent record that confirms it: a certifier’s listing, a regulator’s list or a lab report. It is linked under Sources.
    • Maker’s claim The maker says so on its own page or label. We read it but found no independent record.
    • Not verified We looked and could not confirm it, or the maker does not say. Treat it as unknown.
