hawos Easy Grain Mill (110 V)

Reader ratings
hawos Easy Grain Mill (110 V)

The only electric stone mill we reviewed whose maker says the grinding chamber is 100% plastic-free. We could not confirm the rest of the flour path or a US safety listing, and it was out of stock at the maker and its US seller.

Best for Someone who wants an electric stone mill with no plastic in the grinding chamber, can wait for stock and will accept a German import.

Why we chose it What put it on our list 4 points
    • hawos’s Easy page lists “Mahlkammer zu 100% Plastikfrei” (grinding chamber 100% plastic-free), and its US seller repeats it. hawos’s own site says it chose food-grade plastic over wood for the milling chamber of its mills (its Queen page says the same), so this is a stated difference.
    • Named stones and numbers: corundum-ceramic stones 70 mm across, a 360 W motor, about 100 g a minute of fine flour and about 250 g coarse, set with a hand wheel (hawos spec table).
    • The housing is beech plywood with a linseed-oil varnish. The photos in the 2009 manual appear to show a wooden funnel, funnel insert and flour outlet, although its text names only the housing.
    • hawos gives a 10-year warranty for private use and says it stocks nearly every spare part, even for older models. The manual shows how to open the mill with a screwdriver to clean the stones.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy 4 points
    • Plastic is not ruled out everywhere. The rotating stone carries a brush that sweeps the flour out, and hawos does not say what the bristles are made of. The optional flour container is polycarbonate (Makrolon): use your own glass or steel bowl, which fits under the 14 cm of clearance.
    • We found no US safety listing (UL, ETL or CSA) for the 110 V version, and the manual we could open covers only the 230 V model. hawos says the 110 V version must not be used in the EU.
    • The warranty is unclear for US buyers. hawos’s warranty page says its 10-year warranty applies to units meant for German delivery. The US seller says “10-Year International Home-Use Warranty”, but its own policy page gives 2 years.
    • Out of stock at both sellers on 2026-10-22, and $599.50 is far above the €349 German price. The 560 g hopper is smaller than the 850 to 1,300 g hoppers on KoMo and Mockmill mills.
What to know Details worth knowing first

Most countertop stone mills put plastic where the flour runs. KoMo’s spec tables list a BPA-free, food-grade plastic milling chamber, Mockmill’s casing is plastic or an acrylic composite, and hawos says it chose food-grade plastic over wood for the milling chamber of its mills. The Easy is the one hawos advertises with a grinding chamber that is “100% plastic-free”. For the wider case for keeping plastic away from food, see reducing your microplastic exposure.

It is one claim, from the maker and its importer, with no material list behind it. hawos’s manual names only the wooden housing, the 110 V version has no safety listing we could find, and the 10-year warranty may not reach US buyers. We are asking hawos for a full materials list, the listing and a warranty letter, and will update this page with its answer.

A mill is half of the plan: you also need whole grain. Grand Teton’s organic einkorn berries are the kind of whole berries people mill. If you would rather not mill, we list ready-ground einkorn from Bluebird Grain Farms and Jovial. For what whole-grain flour does in baking, see spelt, fiber and blood sugar and sourdough. Einkorn, spelt and wheat all contain gluten.
