IQAir HealthPro Plus XE Air Purifier
Reader ratings
A Swiss-made HEPA and carbon purifier that CARB lists as mechanical, with filter prices and noise by speed published. It gives airflow, not a CADR, so we cannot check its room rating, and it costs about $1,200.
Best for A buyer who wants a long-lived, filter-only purifier with a separate gas filter for a large room, and will pay for it.

How we evaluated it
Why we chose it What put it on our list
- CARB lists the HealthPro Plus XE as Mechanical (notified 2024-04-23, order G-24-068). By CARB’s definition that means filtration only, with no ozone or ions.
- IQAir’s filter specification gives the HyperHEPA filter as at least 99.97% at 0.3 µm (EN 1822 class H12/13). It says each unit is tested individually and that unnamed labs checked the filter down to 0.003 µm.
- The gas filter is a separate cartridge, the V5-Cell, of granular activated carbon and impregnated alumina, rated 24 months. IQAir’s spec sheet lists a weight of 5 lb for it, without saying how much of that is carbon.
- Running costs and noise are published: HyperHEPA $199.99 (48 months), V5-Cell $99.99 (24 months), pre-filter $79.99 (18 months), about $150 a year at IQAir’s average-use lives; 27 to 59 dB(A) at 3.3 ft across six speeds.
- IQAir’s warranty page gives the HealthPro Series 1 year, and 10 years if you register within 90 days and keep buying genuine IQAir filters, by subscription or with proof of purchase every 12 to 15 months.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy
- It costs about $1,200, roughly four to five times a mid-range model, plus about $150 a year in filters.
- IQAir gives airflow (40 to 300 cfm) but no CADR, and AHAM’s directory has no IQAir entry. Its spec sheet states two room sizes: 419 sq ft “per AHAM AC-1-2020” and 1,125 sq ft at two air changes an hour, the figure its page and Amazon listing lead with. Neither is verified, and the larger one is the kind of coverage claim our criteria warn about.
- The filter is “H12/13”, a range, and the 99.97% and 0.003 µm figures rest on unnamed labs. The page also makes virus and asthma claims; see our guide for what trials show.
- At the top speed it runs at 59 dB(A) and draws 134 W.
What to know Details worth knowing first
IQAir sits at the top of the filter-only field. The HealthPro Plus XE has three stages: a pre-filter, a carbon cartridge for gases and a HyperHEPA filter. It adds nothing to the air, and CARB’s list files it as a mechanical cleaner. That is the design our air purifier guide points to.
What you are paying for is build and parts: long filter lives, a separate gas filter, published prices for every filter and a warranty that reaches 10 years if you register and keep buying genuine filters. What you are not getting is a number we can check. IQAir publishes airflow and two room ratings, not a CADR: 1,125 sq ft at two air changes an hour, and 419 sq ft by the AHAM method on its spec sheet. AHAM’s directory has no IQAir entry, so neither can be tested against our two-thirds rule. Its 99.97% and ultrafine figures come from labs it does not name.
Those gaps hold its rating at three out of five. If you want a room rating you can look up, the Levoit and Oransi models have one for far less. See indoor pollutants for what any particle filter will and will not remove.
