Rocket Espresso R58 TUNE Dual Boiler Espresso Machine
Reader ratings
Rocket’s dual-boiler flagship. Rocket states no material for it; a retailer lists both boilers as copper with brass endplates and the group as chrome-plated brass. Well made and serviceable, with the brass and tubing questions open.
Best for Someone who wants Rocket’s dual-boiler design and accepts that its materials come only from a retailer until Rocket answers.

Reviews are personal experiences, not research, and they never change our quality ratings. Every review is read by our team before it appears.
How we evaluated it
Why we chose it What put it on our list
- The water path can be read in part. Whole Latte Love’s parts diagram for the older R58 names the two boilers, pipes, silicone pipe in four sizes, a volumetric pump, copper and Viton seals, PTFE (“Teflon”) gaskets and the group parts. It names no PTFE or PFA tubing.
- A retailer’s spec table gives the materials Rocket does not: both boilers copper with brass endplates, a chrome-plated brass brew unit and portafilter, a plastic tank and a rotary pump.
- It is built to be serviced. Rocket’s online shop sells group gaskets, shower foils, baskets and portafilters, the pump is a plumbable rotary pump, and the stores list 3-year warranties (Rocket’s own is 2 years, 1 in the USA).
- No Prop 65 notice and no recall naming Rocket Espresso turned up in our searches on 2026-10-22.
Trade-offs What to weigh before you buy
- Rocket states no material for the boilers, group, tubing, pump or tank on its page. The copper and brass details come only from a retailer’s spec table, and the older R58 list does not cover the TUNE.
- Copper and brass are not the glass, ceramic or stainless steel our criteria prefer, and Rocket does not say whether any brass is lead-free.
- It costs roughly $1,500 to $1,850 more than the Rocket Appartamento TCA, which Rocket’s own catalog describes with a copper boiler.
- Portafilter machines released the most metal of the three machine types in a German test, especially after descaling (PMID 26436214; machines not named). The test does not tell us about this machine.
What to know Details worth knowing first
The R58 TUNE is Rocket’s dual-boiler flagship, and it is the hardest Rocket to assess. Unlike the Bicocca, Rocket names no material for it on its page. Whole Latte Love’s table lists both boilers as copper with brass endplates and the group and portafilter as chrome-plated brass. We list it, with a notice, because it is a well-made, repairable machine and the open questions are ones Rocket can answer.
The older R58’s parts list, as copied by Whole Latte Love, shows silicone pipe, a volumetric pump, copper and Viton seals and PTFE (“Teflon”) gaskets, but no PTFE or PFA tubing. It does not cover the TUNE. Rocket does not say whether its brass is lead-free; our guide to lead in cookware and food explains why we ask.
The one German test of coffee machines found metal release highest right after descaling, and its authors recommend careful rinsing afterwards. That applies to any portafilter machine. We are asking Rocket which parts touch brew water and whether its brass is lead-free, and we will update this page with its answer.
Quality & testing How it measures up against our checklist
| What we checked | What we found |
|---|---|
| Inert materials in the hot path Not verified | Rocket states no material. Whole Latte Love lists both boilers as copper with brass endplates, the brew unit and portafilter as chrome-plated brass and the tank as plastic. Tubing and pump are not described by Rocket. The older R58’s parts list names no aluminum part. |
| Lead-free brass Not verified | Not stated. The boiler endplates, brew unit and portafilter are brass per Whole Latte Love, with no lead-free statement, and we found no metal-release test. |
| No PTFE or PFA in the water path Not verified | No PTFE or PFA tubing is named anywhere we looked. The older R58’s parts list, as copied by Whole Latte Love, names PTFE (“Teflon”) gaskets, copper and Viton seals and silicone pipe; it does not cover the TUNE. |
| Filters you can name Not verified | Single and double baskets ship with commercial 58 mm portafilters; the basket material is not stated. |
| Built to last Maker’s claim | Group gaskets, shower foils, baskets and portafilters sold by Rocket; a parts diagram for the older R58. Rocket’s warranty is 2 years (1 year in the USA), held by the dealer; Whole Latte Love and Seattle Coffee Gear each list 3 years. |
| California Prop 65 notices Verified | No notice naming Rocket Espresso in the California Attorney General’s 60-day notice database (searched 2026-10-22; “Rocket” matches unrelated companies such as Rocket Fizz and Rocket 76). |
| Recalls Verified | No Rocket Espresso recall in the US Consumer Product Safety Commission recall database (title search, 2026-10-22). |
What the labels mean
- Verified We opened an independent record that confirms it: a certifier’s listing, a regulator’s list or a lab report. It is linked under Sources.
- Maker’s claim The maker says so on its own page or label. We read it but found no independent record.
- Not verified We looked and could not confirm it, or the maker does not say. Treat it as unknown.
